Officially BR..... but done slightly differently.

What a relief, after months of wondering, what ifs and deliberating, me and my OH have finally gone and done it, and declared ourselves BR.
I was pleasantly surprised how laid back, helpful and polite the court staff were.
What was slightly different for us was, we went to court a few of days ago, got there early, met up with welfare rights who have an office at our local court, they checked our BR forms were filled in o.k., they took us down to the payments office, we paid our money, swore an oath, the court staff even went off and did the 3 copies required, we were told there was no need for us to wait around or to see a judge and that someone from the courts would ring us up to confirm our BR in a few days.
We were in and out of the courts for 40 minutes max.
Yesterday (16/12/08) we got a phone call saying our BR has gone through and the OR will be in touch this week.
WOW how easy was that ! :j
To think we were fretting about going before a judge and having to explain ourselves, court staff looking down their noses at us and all the other bad things that go through your mind with the great unknown and nothing could be further from the truth.
I hope that if anyone reading this and worrying about court that this puts your mind at some sort of ease, as you probably have the same fears and thoughts that we had, but things are never as bad as they seem.
I felt that happy that i even went off to work my nightshift with a smile on my face. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
We found that welfare rights were a brillant help to us, filling in forms and helping us on the day, and we cannot recommend them highly enough.
We would just like to thank all you great people on here that have helped us along our journey so far and answered our questions, no matter how stupid the questions were.
We are now looking forward a Great Christmas & a debt free future.
Thanks again and Merry Christmas to you all. :santa2:

Thanks for sharing your story. I've never heard of a BR where they phone you at a later date to tell you its done - still you live and learn!
Now you can sit back and enjoy the holiday season.

Thanks FYP, we were surprised by that too, but it made things alot easier.
Looking forward to things now instead of a constantly worrying about debt collectors and bailiffs.0 -

hi
max here....................lolNow we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...0 -
Congratulations on taking the plunge! It looks like the courts are changing their normal ways of doing things due to the numbers of people going bankrupt. But anything that makes the process more bearable has to be a good thing! Good luck with the rest of your debt free life !

That message wasn't exclusively for you Max, lol.
But thanks for your advice along the way.
Maybe this is the way the courts are going to do things from now on, hope so, as it was very quick & painless.
Thanks for kind comments Jaynee123.0 -

Exactly what I was thinking - the sheer numbers that must be going through the courts at the moment must be huge! Everyone I talk to seems to have stories of people losing their jobs or facing ever increasing difficulties. I bet that it will rise even more after Christmas when the CC bills land!
Congratulations Costus, the more I read different accounts from people of their BR court experiences the more I realise it is not the complete nightmare that I thought it might be. I hope mine isn't an exception!

here's to a happy debt free future for you and yours, [its funny but when you now have money to spend, its really weird spending it! but boy that feel good factor, paying in cash with what you have managed to save makes it all worth it!]
