Any hairdressers or colourists on??

I am looking for some help and advice. I went to the hairdressers last week to get my hair cut and coloured like Pink/Jo from Spooks, and after 4 hours and after "Platinium" she applied 2 different L'Oreal colour products to try and lighten it up as I resembled Bart Simpson
The colour is now a really yellow blonde, kinda gingery in certain lights. Could anyone advise me how to correct this? Either by going back to brown or something else? I have a salon services closeby.
Thanks in advance

i would go back to the hair dressers and tell them how you feel ,
i have done this once when i asked for my hair to be dyed choc brown and left rather swiftly as didnt know what to say at the time as she turned it jet black, after sleeping on it i went back the next morning and said i didnt like it and i wanted brown not black .
they then spent the rest of the morning lightening it and re dying it again for FREE.0 -
Thanks pink-lint...I told her at the time it was too yellow, hence the other 2 things being put on it...I have lost trust in her now to be honest, and will not get her to colour it again. If you obey all the rules...you miss all the fun!! Katherine Hepburn0

Oh dear. What colour are you naturally? If black is number 1, and very light pale blonde is number 12?
It sounds to me like you are a 6 or 7, and the hairdresser has not used bleach, but used a mild developer on your hair, hence the ginger/brass colour.
Probably the hairdresser did this because she was worried about making you too blonde, as you obviously wanted a caramel honey shade. On some hair however, the only process that will lighten it beyond brassy ginger, is bleach.
If an 9% volume lift is used on a number 6 natural colour for example, the lightest shade achievable is likely to be on the ginger side, and further lightening without bleach will cause it to go yellow or brass. Only a 12% developer or high lift bleach can lighten it beyond the orange/yellow stage. Only a natural light brown/dark blonde at number 8 or 9 will go the shade you were looking for without bleach.
Please don't try to dye it lighter or darker yourself. You will either go green, or a horrible mottled shade of black and brown. Your hair has been over processed, which means you need to treat it with care. You need to go back to a hairdresser to get it sorted out - preferably the one who made the mistake as they will not charge you, but if you cant bear to go back make an appointment with a salon that is known for it's colour expertise (Toni & Guy etc?)
In the meantime, there are a few things you can do to help.
Please note - unfortunately nothing can change the 'ginger' brass tones, but further colouring. This is because it is a chemical process and the structure of the hair has altered. However. Somethings can help to tone down the surface colour, but these usually work better on hair that has been dyed too dark a shade.
Hot water can help with stripping surface colour. Either stand under the shower for ages, and shampoo with the hottest possible water and dandruff shampoo like Vosene, or fill the sink with hot water and submerge just your hair in it, or lie in the hottest bath you can stand with your hair under the water for as long as possible. This opens the cuticle so the surface colour can float out. Then dry your hair with a towel so it is just damp, put on a good, thick, moisturising conditioner, cover with an old plastic bag and a towel, and leave it on overnight. Shampoo out again in the morning, and apply more conditioner. You can also apply the conditioner and cover with a bag then apply heat, (hairdryer) as this also opens the cuticle.
A peroxide bath can lift out colour. This means using a low volume peroxide bleach (you can buy it in the chemist as mouthwash - it is very mild) mixed with shampoo and left on the hair for 15 minutes. This can be a little harsh on hair, so again, use the overnight conditioning treatment.
Something in tomato juice is supposed to tone down brass in hair, I have heard of people smothering their hair in tomato ketchup all night and shampooing out. I think it just tones it down a bit. Google it...can't do any harm.
The opposite shade on the colour spectrum is violet, so you could try buying some silver/violet/ash shampoo (ask the girl in salon services to help you) or try one of those sachets of 'Shaders & Toners' in Ash (in the supermarket) and leaving in on overnight. You could also use a stronger violet/ash semi permanent toner, but the problem with this is the hair will probably pick up more of the violet hue, and you will have more problems - a violet AND ginger tinge...not attractive.

Thanks for the advice Steph...my hairdresser described me as a "dirty fair" colour, not really brunette if you know what I mean.
I wanted to go platinum and showed her this piccy
I am strongly tempted to go back and ask for her advice, as I was £75 and cannot really afford to pay out a lot of money to get someone elses mistake rectified. If you obey all the rules...you miss all the fun!! Katherine Hepburn0 -
It can take a long time to get to that Platinum colour - it's exactly what I wanted but 2 months later have ended up almost there but with a brassy colour on the fringe where my old colour used to be. My hair is really dark, it has taken 2 sessions at the hairdressers to get it even halfway there - these things take time and patience, hairdressers can only do what your hair will allow them to do. I reckon that after about 4 sessions it should resemble the gorgeous colour that Pink has but unfortunately me and OH are TTC so need to cutback a bit - tomorrow I will be asking my hairdresser to tone it down a bit so my roots don't look so awful when it grows back.
BTW - be prepared for the cost! I have to have my roots done every 5 weeks (it's the 6th week now and I look dreadful) - that and a cut and blow dry is £45. My hairdresser recommends I go in every 3 weeks as well to have a toner put on (that keeps it looking plantinum and not yellow) I don't bother as it costs £20! You're paying £75 a time so please think of the long term cost.
Oh and also, be prepared to look a bit like a rainbow when you're hair grows!
I have dark roots of about an inch, a ginger section which was my roots lfrom ast month which has only had one lot of bleach on, then the gorgeous colour and then my ends which are a bit darker! :rotfl: :rotfl:A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
Where does the time go? :think:0 -
Thanks for your advice Glamazon. I went back to my hairdressers today and it is now a gorgeous toffee kinda colour, much better looking! and it didnt cost me anything to get it fixed! Thank goodness.
Good luck with TTC, ask your baby angels for help xxIf you obey all the rules...you miss all the fun!! Katherine Hepburn0
