hi there i need some advice back in august 2006 i entered in to a civil partnership i informed the benifits offices that i would be no longer a single parent from the 4th august. at the time my benifits was stopped for about 6 weeks while they dealt with the new claim, and i still have all the paper work for it. now i been getting letters demanding i pay them £1,500 as they overpaid me because i dint tell them i was married until the september which is wrong i have wrote letter after letter but they are still demanding the money but i know i am right i was honest from the start
please i dont know wot to do anymore but i know i dont owe this money

All you can do is keep browbeating them. Your post is a good example of why it's necessary to have proof of receipt from them for every correspondence.
Just had the same this week where CTB claimed they'd not had my bank statements. I gave them the receipt number from the local council office and lo and behold, they managed to find them.0 -
Can you check your bank statements - should be easy to show that tax credits stopped payments in August when you reported the change.

i have sent them statements of my accounts at that time got my grandparents to vouch that they were helping out at time and i got all copys of letters from them but they still say its me who lied and i know i was honest from the start0
