Fake handbags...

What would happen if I bought a bag off eBay and had an inkling it was fake. How would I prove it was to paypal? Thanks

I'm pretty sure you need to get a signed declaration from the actual designer to say that they have inspected it and deem it to be a fake. Some designers don't do it though.

  • did it actualy state that it was a genuine item, designer look item,or something along that line.If it was stated as genuine first step is to contact ebay
  • No it didnt in one word but lead me to believe it was. I thought you couldnt sell fakes on ebay anyway so i presumed it was real.

It was £170 so I thought it would be ok as it wasn't a £50 job.
  • Any advice? At all?

I said in my post that you have to get a signed declaration from the actual designer to say it is fake and then paypal will look into it. Even if it wasn't described as 'real' then it is still illegal to sell fake goods. What brand was it?

  • It was a Chloe bag. I don't live anywhere close to a Chloe retailer. So annoyed, it was a present to my mum but I'm not giving her a rubbish fake copy!
  • Put in a 'not received' claim via paypal. Then when they refund you...send the seller the bag back.

...Yes I know thats wrong...but so is selling fakes.

Try taking pictures of the bag - particularly the zips on the inside and other hardware, also the inside of the bag. Then try emailing that around to any Chloe retailers you can find - see if they will verify it as fake for you & provide them with the information from the eBay listing.
In the meantime, also email the seller to state that you believe the item to be fake, they may be easy to deal with and tell you to return it.
Paypal tend to be quite good - I've had refunds in my favour on fake items a couple of times without having to provide them with proof. They must have people employed their end who can make sensible decisions.
