in Credit cards
Hey everyone
Just wanted some help/advice, basically my OH has no credit rating. As in he has never had anythign on credit. He does have an argos card, but for some reason this doesnt show up on his credit report? Maybe because it is at 0 balance and hasnt used it for well over a year.
Even his mobile phoen contract is in my name (basically i had a really good deal that i didnt want to give up but wanted another phone so he uses the good deal and i got a new phone
)
A few years ago he claimed back his bank charges and A&L therefore shut his account - which left him with nothing but our joint account to pay his wages into. As the joint account is a nationwide cashbuilder account he cannot get direct debits set up from it, and he doesnt have a debit card - just a hole in the wall card. So its very difficult for him to buy things/get bills paid etc.
He applied for a HSBC account but they needed ID etc before opening and he never got time to get down there so i think that offer passed... I was thinking about getting him a pre paid credit card to try and get him on the credit rating, as well as giving him some form of card to use for spending when he is out.
Anyone recommend them/a specific one? Or does anyone know any bank accounts he would get accepted for online which would accept direct debits etc.
Thank you

A prepaid credit card does not give you a credit history unless you opt for Cashplus' Credit Builder version which costs £5 or thereabout a month.
Is he on the electoral roll?
I would opt for a basic account like Yorkshire Bank's Readycash or Halifax's Easycash0 -
He is on the elecrtol role and i have actually just checked his credit report - he has creditexpert account thingy - and his argos card has appeared on there?? But on the report run on 04/12/08 it wasnt?!! Confused lol
But now its showing he has a £750 limit but is using 0% of his available credit so that must be a plus?
He is too scared to apply incase he gets knocked back because its another search and he is trying to clear up his rating. He doesnt mind paying for the card if that will help make his rating better - we are looking to get a mortgage in a few years and want everything to be spot on and not cause us any problems in getting one!
I havent looked at Yorkshire bank, dont have one round here but will have a look online.BCT:[strike]£16,500 [/strike] £0 HFC CURRYS: [strike]£520[/strike] £0 HFC PC WORLD: [strike]£800[/strike] £0 ARGOS CARD: [strike]£795[/strike] £0 ADDITIONS DIRECT: [strike]£625[/strike] £0 NATIONWIDE CC: [strike]£1560[/strike] £0 VIRGIN CC: [strike]£1500[/strike] £0 :j0 -

To apply for the Yorkshire account you must go to a branch. I would opt for the Halifax Easycash account, You get a Visa Electron card and it reports monthly to all 3 credit files.0 -

I didn't know that cif what other basic accounts report the CRA's?
Some do, when I had my NatWest Step account it reported to Experian and Equifax (didn't check CallCredit)-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
