help!! winner/buyer says they didn't bid!!

hi,

i've just 'sold' something on ebay - but now the winner is saying that they didn't bid for the item (someone has apparently got into their account and bid!) - now they don't want the item as they 'didn't place a bid' ......apparently they've contacted ebay to explain...now what do i do next???

- offer 'second chance' now

- how do i claim the fees ebay has taken from me for the 'winner who didn't bid'!!

please could anyone advise me on my next step- thank you..........

  • Was it a valuable item? Phone, ipod, etc?
The hacking story may be true - but you need to open a NPB to get your fees back.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

no - wasn't valuable - just don't want to 'wait around' and just sell the item (can't be doing with waiting too long)

how does 'second chance' work?? (they only bid £1 less than the 'winner' - so do i just offer the item to them??

    - should i still do the NPB regardless?? - if i do will i be able to offer it to the second bidder now - or will i have to wait??

Open an unpaid item dispute, as it is the only guaranteed way to get your fees back. You can try a Sceond Chance offer, but I find that most are rejected as the bidder has already placed other bids, or else thinks it is a spoof offer or a failed shill bid!

While you are at it, do the honourable thing and report the account hijack to eBay - http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/confidence/isgw-account-theft-protection.html - Report link is at the very bottom of the page.
