I Have A Question Please.

Soo-
I wonder if you or anyone else can answer this please? I have done a search and can't find anything like it.
Yesterday I bid for an item which was very slow to get any bids. Well, finally about a couple of hours before the end it went up to £12.30. I had set maximum bid at £25.00 as I was happy to pay that.
The price remained at £12.30 until about an hour before the end when a newbie came in and after a few bids took it up to £21.01. That remained until about 10 minutes before the end when ANOTHER newbie came in and after a few bids from this newbie it went up to £24.50 so my maximum was the winning bid.
My question is---do you think that it was the seller making these bids?
I can't understand why it was only newbies bidding after me.

    Hi

If you want put the item number up and we'll take a look

  • Have a look and see if the winning bidder has bid on any other items, sometimes you see a pattern ie buying from the same seller all the time. Or it could just be a clear cut case of youve been outbid by someone waiting til the end of the auction. Personally thats what I do if I want an item there is more than a couple of bids on.

    'bettyr' was the winning bidder.

Could be someone who was watching the item and bid as late a possible. Alternatively, could be using sniping tools?

Thanks to all of you. I've just been told that it's a very reputable ebayer.
I'm sorry for being so suspicious!

I am convinced that either the sellers on EBay (most likely) or spoof bidders (on behalf of the seller) have somehow knowledge of the maximum bid amounts. I have bid on several items where there was hardly any interest, but at the last second my maximum bid was outbid by a very small amount. This could be that the seller did not want to let the item go at that price or that someone with knowledge of the max amount, places a bid at the last second when it is impossible to place another bid.

There is a way that can be done but I don't think I'm allowed to post it on this forum!!! (and no I haven't done it myself but when it was explained to me it sounded feasible) ;-)))

You will find that most items on Ebay make their value. You thought it was worth £25, so thats what you bid. We all hope to grab an item for a quarter of what is worth, but then so does everyone else

I was happy to pay £25.00. My question was about a suspicion that I had and I asked the question. People were kind enough to answer.
