HELP PLEASE!!! No hot water.

Hi, we have a Halstead gas cobi boiler that, at best, has been poor and at worst just downright rubbish over the last 6 years.

We have had lots of problems but my b-in-l put it in "to save us money" rather than the worcester I really wanted.

The latest fault has occured in the last couple of days.

It heats the radiators fine but the tap water comes out cold or luke warm.

Just realise when the radiatorsd aren't on it doesn't seem to power up to heat the water.

We have checked the obvious things like pressure and the dial being knocked but they are fine.

I should have taken out an annual care policy but haven't renewed due to the cc which now seems false economy.

Any help, very gratefully received.

sounds like the diaphragm in the divertor valve has perished
i think you have to buy the whole divertor valve for a halstead
should have gone for a worcester ;)

Thanks paulspx, don't I know it!

We told him what we wanted but came home to find a bag of c*&%^$p instead!

Being family it was impossible to say know.

    Expensive and upsetting lesson.
  • Hi

Ace or Ace High? Diaphram kit . Use the whole kit not just the diaphram as the 'o' ring the pin runs through will weep eventually.

B.I.L. should be able to do it no problem.

Thanks corgi guy, just back from a sweaty evening with Jason Donovan dying for a shower but it's going to be a cold one until Monday at earliest.

georgiac, I'd be interested to know if you managed to fix this and what the cost of the new diaphragm was? We have the same problem, and I'm trying to decide whether to get it fixed or just bow to the inevitable and get a new boiler.

We inherited this wretched Halstead when we bought the house, and it has also given us no end of problems, to the point where I'm not convinced it's worth patching it up yet again.

    Hi jayzed

Cor blimey I thought mine was uniquely bad!

Maybe we could form a society.

I rang a friend of a friend who came out on the Saturday evening and said he could do nothing then but he'd ring a friend who specalized in boiler jobs.

He arrived on the monday morning, took one look and confirmed the diaphragm problem.

He took an hour to find one and ten minutes to replace it.

It only cost £18 for the parts ( probably a £2 piece of plastic!!!) and a £60 call out charge.

So for £80 I am really pleased ..... temporarily!

I asked him about replacing it and he reckons it still has lots of years left in it - one final chance me thinks.

    Good luck with yours.

Thanks georgiac. I'm sure ours has years left in it too, I'm just worried that it'll be years of calling the plumber out every month or two!
