can i claim extra help for my health issues and my son for his care

Hi was wondering if anyone can give me some advise.
Basically i claim income support as a single mum I have since the age of about 15 had trouble with my knee joints which over the past 20 years for various reasons got alot worse and more painful. I was diagnosed with siatica as also had pain in my back and a constant dead leg. the pain then went to all my joints .the doctor eventully prescribed NAPROXEN which helped relieve the pain for quite a while now it does nothing to relieve the pain at all I am in constant joint pain most of the time and it does limit what i can do the distance i can walk and time i can sit .My 14 year old son does an awful lot for me He does most of my lifting and carrying hoovering etc is there any benefis we can claim

  • Have you looked into carers allowance? I know what you mean with the back pain, I have quite bad artritis in my spine and siatica.
When I am really bad I can claim for child care and home help! I found this out by speaking to the lone parent advisor at the job centre, but that was a few years ago!
Have you put a claim in for disability and possibly mobility! If you go on the following link it is quite helpful.

Hope this is of some help.

Second putting in a claim for Disability Living Allowance. It is based on your care and mobility needs, rather than your condition. Remember when filling in the forms to be honest, no matter how bad you feel about that, and that the mobility is compared to a normal person.

Here is a good guide. It's a bit out of date and is aimed towards helping autistic kids but it gives excellent examples of types of help with care and mobility which you may have not even thought of as you being assisted:

i have a very difficult drs practise it took me 4ever for them to realise that i needed stronger pain relief last time !!!! I think they put everyones pain in joints etc down to weight issues also I've stuck it out on NAPROXEN for so long now with repeat prescriptions as going back to the doctors all the time just to be told the same thing all the time as getting to the drs is so hard i cannot physically walk to the doctors and dont drive i just feel that they might think that i'm a phony just to get onto long term benefits they should come and live in my house for a few days especially when the weather is cold just to see how bad i get and how much my son actually does for me ( hes one of the only 14 year olds i know that knows how to use washing machine hang washing on line properly and them iron it .)he is such a treasure
