Cant seem to find the information im looking for through searching the forums so though i would ask!
What, if any, benefit can be claimed by a single mum whilst waiting for a Incapacity Benefit tribunal? I beleive that the appeal was made within a month but turned down so its now going to a tribunal due to not attending the medical examination
Have read about claiming Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance at a reduced rate whilst waiting for an appeal but does this still apply if its a tribunal? what exactly is the reduced rate and where do you apply? or do you think it would be better to just reclaim again if the tribunal takes months and months and months? or is it not that simple?
Sorry for all the questions - im not very clued up about benefits and would like to help out a family member but im going insane reading about all the in's and out's and trying to understand how it all works so would appreciate any help
Thanks x

How old is their child, and does the family have any other income or savings?Gone ... or have I?0

Sorry should of prehaps added more details. The benefit claim was a long running claim, about 4/5 years and was the higher amount payable with a added premium for being younger when becoming ill (mental health)
No savings or assets although there is a weekly payment of CTC for a toddler, i think this is maybe £50ish? but would have to clarify that tomorrow as its getting a little late now...... I love my gorgeous little girl0 -
If you're a lone parent of a young child, with no savings, you'll be eligible for IS, LHA and CTB.0

Thanks for that, LHA and CTB not a problem, it was just the question regarding what to claim whilst waiting for the tribunal to be honest
Can anyone explain about claiming a reduced rate of benefit whilst waiting for a tribunal? are there specific questions on the form or is it just a normal claim that then switches back to IB if sucessful? anyone been through it?
Its been 10 years since i had anything to do with benefits so sorry if im being a bit dumb lol just would like to have something to report back! I love my gorgeous little girl0 -
0800 0 55 66 88 to claim Income Support or a form called an A1 is needed.
Why did you fail to attend the medical?0 -
I had a review form Sept 07, Medical Jan 08, Incap Stopped Feb 08, Appeal Heard July 08. Incap reinstated Sept 08. I received £48.40 reduced rate I/S (instead of £60.50) whilst appeal heard.
My local CAB sent a submission to the Appeal Tribunal and I had a representative observer at my Appeal Tribunal.
Incap will be reviewed in a year.0 -
As stated in OP its about my cousin which is why im not too sure of the amount of CTC received or the reasons for not attending, the last IB payment was end of August/beginning of September? She was under the impression (as i was) that nothing could be claimed until she either won or lost the appeal but again im not sure who told her this.
I think a visit to CAB is probably her best bet:heart: I love my gorgeous little girl0 -
She will be able to claim the full amount of IS due to being a single parent.Gone ... or have I?0
