Selling at advertised Price????

Went into blockbuster today andwhilst looking roud they had a big silver basket/bin full of dvd players, the sign above it stated "DVD Player For only £20" however on the top of he dvd players was a Sony Blu Ray player (RRP £199) but it was in the basketbi with the sign stating only £20, looked on the box and it states blu ray/dvd player so tied to the signage. Went to the desk an saidrigh ill take the Blu ray player please been as its only £20, his response was simply "no you wont were selling them at £199", afer clearly stating it is been advertised in the basket as £20 i would not be paying £199 for it, i advised him that iems are to be sold at there advertised price

(As with tesco i picked up an item £5 cheaper due to the wrong ticket, No problem sir here you go)

still he refused point blank and said it was with the dvd players as that is what it is. I took some pictures showing its position in the basket with the sign and just wondered could i write to head office and/or(not sure if its trading standards) and demand it at the price advertised??

Any advice is muchly appreciated biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif
Cheers

They are under no obligation to sell it to you, sorry. This is one of the most misunderstood aspects of consumer law.

As soolin says you have no right to be sold the item at a particular price. Tescos policies are company policies - not statutory rights
  • Yup!

As already stated, you have misunderstood your rights to the sale at advertised price. They are under no obligation to sell to you at that price I'm afraid, as it can quite easily be seen as an error of product placement/price and not blatant false advertisement.

The reason tesco, and some companies have offered the refund double the difference, or refund the difference with price mistakes, is because that was their own companies policies to do that......over and above what you are actually offered by statutory rights.

Sounds to me like someone was going to buy the £199 one then spotted the cheaper one. Then did what we all do at times, dumped the dearer one on top of the cheaper ones and grabbed one of the cheaper ones. Hardly the shops fault and head office may take the view that you put it there in the first place.

I doubt they would give you anything just because a customer messed up. Might do it it was one of their own staff.
  • Its called invitation to treat. Until both buyer and seller agree the price there is no deal... Sorry

(in reality as above someone has probably put the blueray in the wrong container)
  • i have just bought something from Amazon that was clearly a mistake and under priced..........i bought all 5 available thinking i had a bargain
amazon sent confirmation of my order details via email
whats the chances of me getting delivery?
if not what would anyone think will be the outcome of it all ?
do i have ANY rights at all?
p.s. after an hour they had the item listed with the correct price
    cheers for any help
