JSA delayed - food running out- crisis loan?

does having only 4 sausages, half loaf of bread, and some carrots count as a crisis?!

A change in JSA meant only paid 1 week allawance, which has all gone- was given impression that the remainder ws to be paid this week..

ut after 3 calls to check progress with the processing centre, and request urgent payment (giro by post quicker to receive, then BACS?) I got a letter saying the shortfall most likely to be lumped in with the next mormal payment run, which isnt due until next week!

the help site seems rather vague- anyone know if local signing office can or does advance payments, for such essentials?

  • Have they changed your payday or the week in which you sign on ? Seems unusual that you're getting one weeks benefit then three. What date did you last sign on ? And when are you due to sign on again ?

You can apply obviously for a Crisis Loan. If nothing else the Social Fund office might insist that you get your weeks JSA immediately rather than a Crisis Loan.
  • same signind day- cont. based JSA expired between signing dates, so they only paid up til ending date, new (icome based) form done at the following signing- no change in circumstances.

the helpful clerk said (at the time) any split claims like this would usally get paid separately.. so i week worth of 'old style' on the usual payment date, and new style a few days, MAYBE a week, later.. which is now!

  • Ah right, I get ya.

Yes, defo a Crisis Loan (alignment to benefits). Phone them 1st thing, think their lines are open from 08.30 hrs.

Assuming you're in Brighton, you'd be surprised to learn some Social Security work for your area is currently being dealt with in Scotland because your local benefit delivery centre can't cope !

All the best, hope you get on OK today.

Apply, I've had to apply for a few becuse my IS claim is taking ages and me and my son are living off £45 a week.
A crisis would count as having no foood, gas, leccy nessessities like that.
