Also, try here for the same offer...
  • Hi,

Am I right in thinking the 40 % voucher can be used on the 'buy in bulk' offers that are constantly running in Thresher, Wine Rack etc? When you buy 3 bottles of the same wine, the price of each comes down considerably. However, can the 40 % reduction then be applied in that case?

As an aside, the ASDA 3 for £10 is hard to beat.

  • The permanent Wine Rack/Threshers offer is 3 bottles for the price of 2 (cheapest bottle free) - the 40% off can not be used with that offer. To maximise the discount get 3 bottles all priced the same. If you buy 3 bottles all the same price then you effectively get 33% off.

The 40% off voucher is the one you print off yourself and expires on 02 December.
The main advantage is that you can use it to get just 1 bottle or bottles of different prices and you still save 40%. No need to buy in multiples of 3.

However the £5 off £30 vouchers in the Wine Rack pricelist/catalogue can be used with the 3 for 2 offer but the vouchers are for November and January. If you bought 3 bottles of wine @ £10 each and used the £5 off your discount per bottle would work out at 50% as shown above.

It's a rubbish deal see my posts 12 & 14 - you're spot on about Asda I'd stick with them

It does not work quite like that. I just tried it and was refused because if you pick three £10 bottles the 3 for 2 offer means you are only spending £20 so you don't qualify. You must spend £30 after the 3 for 2 discount applies.

You will need to pick three bottles at £15 so the total for two is £30 i.e. you are spending £30 so qualify for the £5 off. With the £5 off you then get three £15 bottles for £25 instead of £45. That is you save £20 which is just less than a 45% saving not 50%. Compared to the 40% offer the difference is you save an extra £1.50.

However you won't find many bottles you may like conveniently priced at £15. They will be £14.99 or the next step up which looking at the catalogue is £15.99 (and only one red wine is at that price on a quick glance).

So with the £15.99 wine you end up paying £26.98 for three bottles (with the extra £5 off) instead of £47.97 which is a saving of £20.99 or just over 43%. Given 40% off is £19.20 its hardly worth the effort of trying to find bottles of the right price and restricting your choice for the sake of £1.79 in my opinion.

Of course you may find in a different store they do take the "spend £30" to mean before the 3 for discount applies but I have my doubts.

  • Thanks for that info - was going to try it tommorrow as the first voucher expires on 30th Nov, but if they say no then I will just use the 40% off instead. Most of their £9.99 / £10.99 wines are a bit overpriced anyway but at £6 (40% off) it's an ok deal (more like 20% off if you price them reasonably). £5 a bottle would be even better but I am not going to argue over a few quid. I will be stocking up on the Vineyard X Garnacha for mulled wine though (£2.99 at 40% off) and the Chenin Blanc, plus a few M&S wines at 20% off on Thursday. :)

Thanks for the replies to my query. I went to Thresher and used the voucher for 1 bottle of champagne. This particular champagne is priced at its lowest in Asda at £29.39, but with the voucher at Thresher it was £23.19 - quite a saving.

However, if I was buying other wines (non-champagne) in bulk, I think the 3 for £10 in Asda is the best deal. It is hard to find a selection of wines, including sparkling, for £3.33 each.

I think, however, some of the supermarkets are going to slash prices further in the run up to Christmas. I remember last year, Asda did 2 bottles of champagne for £15. Let's hope they are as generous this year otherwise party guests at my house will be getting white wine with a Soda Stream injection to it.

Ps. I am surprised Majestic is still in business. They are expensive with bulk buys. We went to one recently and they guy behind the counter acted as though we were the first people to go there for about a month.
  • I got the same result as DaveO on the £5 off - they said I had to spend £30 after the 3 for 2 discount - so £45 to get £5 off.

I think the small print on the £5 off £30 voucher is misleading/confusing -
"This coupon cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer or discount except for our 3 for 2 offer where the £5 money off coupon will be deducted from the overall cost of the 2 products which are charged (where the cost of the 3 products amount to £30 or more). "

I think M&S are doing another 20% off day on Thursday which includes wine.

My local Waitrose is sold out of the half-price (£12.99) champagne.
