Its a really common problem, and if you take your ibook to apple they should replace the casing for you as they are aware of it.

After 4 years, I don't think I could get that lucky! :rotfl: Yes, I've got dots on mine, although they rest about 3 inches away from the crack.

I take it you're hooked on Big Little Planet too then :D
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

I have known them to replace the casing on 3 year machines, so you may be lucky? Drop into an apple store if you are close to one, take it with you and they may do it for you within an hour. The one in Manchester did my friends and hers was well out of warranty. They had it just under 2 hours and even replaced the trackpad :D

And yes, unfortunately I seem to have lost my life to a sack lol. Very very addictive isnt it?

It is not 'brand new' and had some minor scratches on casing. It works ok, so far. We checked the number on apple and in fact the warranty expired in September 08 so it is at least 14 months old.

I'd be very suspicious that the warranty expired Sept 08. What's the spec of the computer, and how does that compare to "new" computers out today?

If it's 14 months old, then I'm guessing the spec could be rather out of date. A second hand value of a 14 month old computer would be about 25% of the price (??? - computer specifications change rapidly!), so if you paid £450, would they have paid nearly £2000 for this computer when new??
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

hi bought item 300269853071 on e-bay last week. Mac laptop - 'brand new' not out of box etc. Paid £450 for it including postage/insurance.

Received it this week. It is not 'brand new' and had some minor scratches on casing. It works ok, so far. We checked the number on apple and in fact the warranty expired in September 08 so it is at least 14 months old.

I've emailed seller and his response was - "[FONT=arial,sans-serif]I have not actually seen the laptop because obviously I left it in it's box since I got it.

The only reason for the scratches could be that it is a refurbished model from Apple. As I'm sure you're aware they wouldn't resell something that was faulty.

To answer your question as far as I am aware it is new.

Again, I am sorry that you have your doubts. I was sure you would be overjoyed with your purchase. "

Advice for where I go with this gratefully received. I feel I've paid over the odds for a not new laptop - and it isn't as advertised. Can I ask for a partial refund? Suggestions please.

I'm going to go against the general consensus of opinion here and say that I'd put in a SNAD claim with paypal. Why? He admits the item is not new. It's a refurb from Apple. As such, it's not new. He failed to state that the machine is refurb in his auction. Being a refurb means it is worth less than had it been new. He misdescribed it in his auction by stating it is new.

See how you go with the partial refund. If he doesn't sort it out that way, go for a SNAD claim. "New in box" is not the same as "Refurbished".
In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

I agree, it should have been made clear in the suction that it was a refurb. If the seller offers a partial refund, make sure it's worth your while to take it!

You are looking at an Apple Macbook.

As you can see it is still unopened in the box.

If I get loads of requests then I will open it to take more photos but this WILL be made clear on the item page. (This page)

I am selling this because I have no use for it and would rather have some cash than it just sitting here. The cheap Buy It Now price is there because as I said previously I have no use for it.

I guarantee that this is a 100% genuine auction and not a scam

Hmm, I'd do a SNAD claim personally.

I've had several e-mails back/forward today with seller.

He seems a little confused. I said I hadn't paid for a refurb, to which he replied, "As for the refurbished comment, I have no idea if it is or not, so take that with a pinch of salt. If it was then I would have put that in the item description".!! When I pointed out it was what he'd said, he said to put that down to his 'bad grammar' and it was new. I've sent him some photo's - it isn't easy to get decent ones due to the light reflecting. The 'feet' are discoloured so we took photo of them.

Thanks for all your comments - will let you know!
