My car Vauxhall Cav. N Reg engine making squeaking noise

Hello,...

Not sure if this is the right place for this but My care : vauxhall cavalier 1996 model N Reg. ...makes this squeaking noise from the engine where the squeaking sound/noise increases as the speed increases.... I have been driving this car since 4 months now but honestly, this noise started only about 2-3 weeks ago when it started raining almost everyday.

Can anyone pls advise ?

Thank you much

The squeaking sound you describe is a classic sound of a slipping fan belt but it is also a classic sound of the water pump dying.
I get the feeling that you don’t have much of a clue of what goes on under the bonnet and whilst adjusting the fan belt tension is relatively straightforward for someone who knows what they are doing I’m not exactly sure that anyone as naïve as you appear to be would be able to cope.
This might be a bit old fashioned nowadays, but do you have any neighbours who might know more about cars than you do?
To someone who knows what they are doing a fan belt adjustment will take less than 5 minutes.
Ask around. Hopefully one of your neighbours will be able to fix the problem.

It's easy to think the worst when you have an old car. Mine took ages to move-off from a stop position, and then made a loud banging noise when it eventually started moving, like it had been stuck to the floor then released suddenly. I took it to the garage thinking that the end had come for my poor old car but they rang me to say there was nothing wrong, but that they'd pumped-up the tyres as there was only 10lbs of pressure in each one, and that would have caused the problems I was having.
I drove off without a hitch, nor has it happened since. I felt a bit stupid, but at least he didn't charge me.
PS - I just remembered, there WAS a charge - I took so long to call the garage that all four tyres are almost bald. I must have driven on flat tyres for months.

If you have a 12 yead old Vauxhall, and the only problem you have is a little squeak, you have been very lucky.
