Hi i ordered an item from this website URL: https://www.MyDV.co.uk because it advertised it would be delivered in time for christmas, but as the time is drawing closer i tried cotacting them via e mail but recieved no replys so then i tried phoning there customer helpline but it just rings then a voice in an american accent states you cant leave a message as our message box is full.
All that is fair enough i would normally just write it off saying i wont use that site again, but the problems is after ordering the item the mony was taken out of my account the following day. Is there anyway i can get my money back.
I was sent an electronic reciept.
Has anyone else used this site and did they recieve there goods, it looked ok at the time of ordering, it even had the wee padlock when it was taken my card details.
Thanx in advance.

I've heard nothing but bad things about MyDV, apparantly they're running all sorts of scams, taking too much money and often failing to deliver any goods. Just google for MyDV and you'll see hundreds of results complaining about the site.
http://www.mydv-ripoff.co.uk/ might be a good place to start, could give you information on getting some or all of the money back, apparantly there is some legal action underway in the US
Edit: if you used a credit card to order, contact the card company, they may be able to investigate and do a chargeback or refund your money under a fraud protection plan0 -
If you had done a search for that website on Google or within this forum, you would have found quite a wealth of information...
I suggest that you read the following;

I would also suggest that you start pursuing a refund through your Card provider ASAP....

If it's a Visa debit card, I saw a post on here the other day that says Visa are giving the same protection with delta as they do with their credit cards. Some clever person might track the thread down, or just email Visa... :rudolf:Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

Hi,
I ordered a camera on 14 of Oct for £112 but on checking my credit card statement saw I was charged £120. It was only then that I realised I was dealing with an American company. As Christmas delivery was very much in doubt I cancelled on 06/12/05. To date, after numerous emails/online customer (dis)service and phone calls promising me a full refund, I have recieved nothing.

A friend of mine bought a camera from mydv. He paid something like £140 for a model that is at the cheapest £199 in the UK on the internet. The dv list price was something like £135, so he had to pay some extra that wasn't shown. However, the camera has arrived and he's happy with it.Happy chappy0

Tom I hope he remains happy with it as one of the other things mydv.co.uk don't tell people is that the manufacturers guarantee is not valid, that you are reliant on mydv in this respect and that their guarantee is good for only 30 days. I am copying below a transcript of an online conversation with their chat support. I really do think that people's experience with this company acts as a great learning tool for online shoppers.

You are now chatting with 'Lisa'
Lisa: Thank you for contacting MyDV, how can I help you today?
mike: I understand that you ship goods from the USA. Is the manufacturers Guarantee for these goods, e.g Canon or Sony, valid in the UK?
mike: Please reply
Lisa: No, the warranty is by mydv and not the manufacturers
mike: So what happens if the equipment develops a fault and needs to be returned. Who pays for shipping etc?
Lisa: It will be replaced
Lisa: The shipping cost is taken care by us
mike: I don't understand what you mean "it will be replaced." Does this mean you would not require me to send you the faulty equipment?
mike: OK. But what about customs duties, who pays them?
Lisa: The price you pay is inclusive of all that
mike: Do you put the correct value of the goods dispatched on the shipping documentation?
Lisa: Could you please re-frame that query?
mike: Shipping documentation requires the value of the goods purchased to be declared for customs and excise purposes. Do you put the actual purchase price on the documentation or do you put a standard price on for all shipments?
Lisa: The actual price
mike: Returning to the issue of the Guarantee, your website seems to suggest that this is only good for 30 days. Is this correct?
Lisa: Yes
mike: It seems to me that your company is still participating in deceptive trading. Most people would expect the manufacturers Guarantee which is usually one or in some cases two years to be honoured. Don't you think that it would be a good idea to draw this to the attention of prospective purchasers?
mike: are you going to reply?
Lisa: I can pass this on to my concerned department
mike: I don't understand that. Please explain.
Lisa: I can place your request with my executive management who will look in to it and do the necessary
mike: I will watch your website with interest for further developments thanks for your time. GoodbyeDemocracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

Of course they will, "Lisa..."

7. What is the warranty policy?
We offer a one-year, limited warranty with all products sold on our website. This warranty does not cover product failures caused by misuse, accidents, water damage, or conditions not covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
Alarm bells ring when in the t&c's they start to talk about currency conversion.
Alarm bells also in that the only address they give is in USA:
MyDV is owned and operated by an international company called NEPCO, with headquarters at 1432 Main Street, Waltham, MA 02451, USA. Our customer contact center is located in Bangalore, India.
And they use a .co.uk website. A Question to ask would be do you trade from within the UK? Wha is your trading address from witin the UK? When I order am I protected by UK trading laws? Why do you use a .co.uk address when you trade from USA?
It is my understanding that .co.uk addresses are given out from within the UK so a law needs to be passed that makes them exclusive to businesses trading from within the UK.0
