Merchant Debit credit card processing

Can Anybody give advice as the the best merchant tools and rates for accepting card payments as part of a business mainly telesales.

I have seen some options

1.Paypal virtual terminals but their rates are crazy 4.4% plus 20p for monthly sales up to £1500 then 3.9% to £6000 monthly sales.
No monthly fee but thats no use as a monthly sale of £650 would be more than a £20 monthly fee.

2 Google checkouts but thats only for websales no telesales options. Good for online website customer transactions though.

So basically who amongst the rest of high street banks has the lowest cost option?

The person to ask is Blue_monkey on the ebay forum (see my signature) as she explained all this recently for another person with a similar question. I think though the outcome was that paypal is considerably cheaper than the other schemes but that many people prefer to pay extra just to avoid using paypal.

  • My minimum sale price is £350 and typically around £400 average.

So a 4% fee ~£20 on each single sale is just rediculous.

I don't want to pass this cost on to the customer, its not fair!

As a money saving forum, perhaps a bit of money saving advice is needed for retailers as well......its only fair.

  • Why don't you look at a CC terminal. I had one from RBS 7yrs ago, the cost was £15 per month rental(no minimum spend), transactions were 1.5% of cost of sale for CC. Debit card transactions were 30pence per sale. I also got 1yr free banking when I first started up(had to ask for this).

The terminal plugs into your phone line & RBS pay for the calls every time you put through a transaction.

All banks do the same thing, just phone & check out all their prices & deals.
