We've split and I need to raise a deposit...

Not sure if anyone saw my thread a few weeks ago about the possibility of my relationship ending... well it has now! We decided last night!
We have both decided to move out of our joint flat after Christmas sometime but I don't have any savings and the deposit on this place won't be given back until we move out...
Any ideas on how I can get hold of some cash quickly?
I had applied for a Lloyds Platinum card to pay off my Next debt but I got the 'no thank you' letter today!
My mum has offered to pay towards the deposit but I don't think it will cover it all.
The flats I have been looking at are around £500 a month, this is in the Croydon area, I currently live on the outskirts where it's alot more expensive... is £500 reasonable for a 1 bedroom flat?
Sorry about all the questions!
Thanks, Jo

I guess you will be needing about 1k then for the deposit, perhaps you could get an O/D with your bank?
Im not sure where you work or how much you earn, but consier where you work as a huge factor in your budget, we have cheap mortgage but huge travel cost so are looking at spending less on travle more on rent IYKWIM that way we will get a better house also.
Have, you looked at seeing if it would be a good idea to get a loger maybe you would find that cheaper, or how about you find a flat share then you would move into somebody elses place and have a lot less out goings?
Good luck

So sorry to hear about your news, is there any chance of your partner/expartner helping you?
Are the debts joint or yours?
Can you register with a housing association?
Good luck and I wish you all the best for 2006.0 -
Can't help with money raising ideas apart from wondering would your employer consider making a loan to you to help with the deposit?
Do you have anything you could sell, perhaps some jewellery?
I do think the rent of £500 month pretty good for that area for a 1 bed flat.
However, it may be worth your while pricing up 2 bedroom properties then consider renting the 2nd room out to give you extra cash if there isn't a huge difference in the rents.
Good luckThe bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Sorry to hear about your relationship ending. Perhaps you could consider temporarily moving into someone else's place as a lodger, or doing a flat share, like mummytofour suggests, that way you could save up for a deposit for your own place. Have you tried your bank, most are fairly flexible about loaning money for deposits or increasing overdrafts for this purpose - well mine were always really good, even considering the huge overdraft that I always seem to have following me! Good luck and best wishes for a new start.GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000

Maybe appeal against this? What's your credit rating like? Mine was good and I got knocked back, appealed and was given one on a 1.5k limit, managed to get that upped to 5k.2p off is still 2p off!0 -
Some local councils run a rent deposit scheme, I don't know if you would be eligible but it is worth checking on their website.Signature removed for peace of mind0
