E-bay business

I'm starting up a small ebay business whereby I'll be making and selling the items.

I want to register a new ebay account (but not an ebay shop) so that I can keep it separate from my other one. Do ebay allow you to start selling immediately once the account is open? Or do they insist that you have a certain amount of feedback first from buying? I know that it's the case for buy-it-now but I'm referring to the bog standard auction style.

Cheers :)

AFAIK you can start selling straight away as long as you have a debit or credit card on file for billing, but I may be wrong!

    Thanks Soo.

Also, does anyone know if you can use the same paypal account for both ebay accounts?

Yes, just add the email address associated with the new ebay account to your existing paypal account.

  • Ebay lets you have as many accounts as you like as long as you don't bid for your own items.

I think you need 10 feedbacks before you can do certain stuff on Ebay?

My wife and I share a PAYPAL account but have different Ebay accounts.

You need a feedback of 10 or more to do "Buy It Now" auctions (unless you have a PayPal account, and accept PayPal as a payment method, in which case you only neeed 5).

The thing to do is use your old account (which I assume has a reasonable feedback rating) for selling and use the new one for your other things. Saves on building up feedback hassle which can limit what you do as a new seller.

That's not a bad idea at all. A selling account has more need of a good feedback score than a buying account, so I would agree with Hintza and suggest you swap your idea about.

I think you will need more than one bank account and credit card to open multiple Paypal (and eBay?) accounts AND have them verified. The same bank account cannot be used more than once, and I think it's the same for credit cards.

But you can definitely use one Paypal account against more than one eBay account.

And you can also use more than one Paypal account against one eBay account.
  • For a number of reasons eg buying and selling diiferent items we run 6 eBay accounts through one paypal account without any problems (except the spam phishing letters!!)
