Electric Toothbrushes

I've seen this one advertised as cheap on HUKD deals: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oral-B-Professional-6000-Rechargeable-Toothbrush/dp/B0019Z561I
As well as asking whether anyone's had one before and whether it's recommendable, I also wanted to ask whether electric toothbrushes in general are better? And is it only the expensive ones that are better than a normal brush? Thank you
As an aside, and this is going to sound really pedantic and arsey (:o), but when I lazily made my way to this forum, I typed MSE into Google and it was obviously the first result that came up. However, the first sub-heading was:
Forum's
and I couldn't help but be bugged by the misplaced apostrophe!
Is there somewhere I can report this to, as it may even reflect better on the site too.
Sorry & thanks!

Yes, I know what you mean about the apostrophe...that always bugs the heck out of me too. I recently found out that there is an 'Apostrophe Protection Society' - no doubt started by someone like us!! http://www.apostrophe.fsnet.co.uk/
I would also like to know what people think about electric toothbrushes. As a session with a hygenist no longer seems to be part of a regular check-up, costing in the region of £30 for a 20 minute scale and polish, I wonder if an electric toothbrush would save money if it actually helps to remove stains from teeth? Obviously I wouldn't attempt to do the tartar scaling thing myself, but I'm wondering if the polishing bit can be done with an electric toothbrush at home? And is it possible to buy that pink stuff they use to do it...does anyone know?0 -

I wouldnt be without my electric toothbrush now. I started off with the phillips one that stopped if too much pressure was applied as I have done untold damage already from over brushing. I now have a bog standard oral B osculating one and it does the job so well that I didnt need a scale at the dentist last visit even though I was "due" one. Im just over the 18 month mark since my last scale and im just beginning to see tartar around a few teeth.
I gave up smoking this year so that may have a lot to do with things mind.
Im never going to have pearly whites but I don't get coffee staining any more and I drink perhaps 10/12 mugs of black mud a day
Colegate do a little tube of what they say is dental polish same as the dentist uses. It tastes like it but I doubt its as good. A tube supposedly lasts 6 weeks but I've had one for ages. I do now and then give a once over using it and it does make your teeth feel cleaner. However id be worried about how abrasive it was to use it on a regular basis.
All in all Id say my oral hygiene has improved significantly and Id never go back to just using a bog standard toothbrush0
