No great insurance deals for bankrupts?

Followed site instructions and got a house insurance quote (buildings only) for 200:00 less than present renewal quote.
As Meldrew bankrupt, and self paying all household expenses, this is an impressive saving.
At point of paying, am directed to read 'assumptions' made by insurer, on the premise that insurance invalid if assumptions not applicable.
'Assumptions' include that no member of household is a bankrupt or in process of bankruptcy. Directed to make telephone call if any assumption incorrect.
Call number and explain situation (I am sole owner, outright, of building, with 35 years uninterrupted insurance without a claim) and after several hours delay, receive a return call asking me if I have advised my current insurer of the fact of partner's bankruptcy. Say no.
Am told to do so, before any new insurer will quote for insurance. If current insurer will not quote, then new insurers will not do so. Explain that I do not want to reinsure with current (200:00 dearer) insurer, but refusal to quote repeated.
Am I alone in feeling this is disgusting? Meldrew is no criminal - quite the reverse; if anything naievely honest. A brief review of Meldrew's insurance history will show he is a payer, not a claimer.
As I've said here before, the implications of bankruptcy stretch far beyond the ken of the average struggling business/individual, and should be avoided at all costs if possible.

Sorry to hear that MW, there are a few a**hole companies around. Hopefully someone can tell you of any insurance companies that have been good to them and you can still get a good deal. But it is wrong.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

Oh yikes I need to go home and read my new policy then for car and home contents bet this will be small print item! was not asked on phone of me though which is where I did both having decided my insurance on car was too high, but went back to company I was already with and topped £11 per month off of it.
I know you say it should be avoided at all costs, but you know what I would not avoid it for the peace of mind alone sorry that was killing me, arguing over insurance is not gonna do me in, just means I may have to look around and do more searching to get things.
There are few bank accounts, but I got one so I am sure insurance and many other things will be the same.
It is a pain in the butt as one brush tars all, instead of the majority who are decent people getting some slack, they get the rope tied tight due to the unscrupulous ones out there, the wheeler deallers.

That's just it! They don't ask if anyone in the household has a criminal record for fraud!
I know sometimes bankruptcy is unavoidable, and everything else seems manageable in comparison to the stress of being hounded, but I cannot understand why I should be penalised.
I am the sole owner of the house, not bankrupt and wasn't involved in his business at all. If I have been a good risk for 35 years, what's changed?
Personally, I think it is just a cynical ploy by insurance companies to ramp up the costs.0 -

Try Co-op, they don't ask about bankruptcy, and as I bank with them they are aware, and I got it £340 cheaper than Legal & General.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

I did an online home insurance quote from the Co-op - since they seem happy for us to bank with them, perhaps they are happy to insure us too??
