does anyone do dressmaking

can anyone tell me a bit about how to get into dress making

  • put a card in a shop window or word of month. maybe a small ad in the local paper.keep your prices low but not to low. have an idea of what you can offer as a sevice and a list of your charges.even cheap business cards and flyers are another idea. have you tried asking in dress shops or dry cleaners if they need sewing done.can you make curtains, cushons etc.

I made a dress for my niece last year and she wore it to a party. So many people commented that I should sell them I decided to have a go.

Luckily I had some left over fabric from her dress so I made one out of that and put it on e-bay saying that I could make in any colour/fabric/size and to e-mail me if interested.

I sold 5 dresses from one 7 day e-bay listing.

Sadly I found that for all of the time and effort I made very little profit.
That said, if I had more time I would probably have continued and accepted the minimal profit to build a name for myself and increase the fees I was able to charge.

    Worth a go though.
