As I approach my retirment age, I discovered beauty salons last year. Never in my life had I been in one, but this one happened to have the door open on a hot day and I saw, not footballers wives sitting in there, but normal women like me. So in I went and booked in for a "facial". "What sort do you normally have?" "Erm, never had one" Gasps of horror from waiting crowd. Have to say, it was well worth it - the large pores, the odd black head, etc. which I thought you just had to put up with as you aged - all gone - beautifully radiant skin now, from just the old cleanse, tone and moisturise routine that Id heard so often and never done. Have to say, well worth it and I now have a facial every month.

    I almost never wear make-up.

I wear msacara most of the time - I have fair eyelashes, and without it I look like a rabbit.

I never wear foundation (never seen it look good, and my skin's fine anyway) but do wear that magic gold pen stuff when I look tired.

I will confess to occasionally getting my eyelashes dyed. It only takes 10 minutes and costs £5-7 and it lasts 6-8 weeks. Much nicer than mascara and it doesn't stain your pillowcases.:D
  • My DD is like you neverdespairgirl - she has had her eyelashes tinted in a salon but it was costing her £16.50 in one and I think £9 in the other. So she decided to do it herself. I had visions of rushing her to A&E with some horrible reaction or worse! But she did a patch test and have to say it looks as good as the salon and if I remember rightly it only cost about £7 for the kit from Boots and I think there's enough for about 8 goes (god, my memory's bad - sorry it's all a bit vague but it's definitely saved her a fair bit of money!).

    I don't fear growing old.

It's the alternative that I don't like the sound of!

Oooh whats this magic gold pen stuff that you are on about? At the moment I have got dark circles and bags and need some help!

I must admit, I am a bit faddy when it comes to skin care creams. I've tried most of the ones advertised! But I tend to get off Ebay rather than the shop itself so I do kinda save money.

Never had a facial.. wouldn't mind trying one though but the thought of spending £20 for half an hours pampering I just can't justify.

Touche Eclat by YSL is the gold pen.

As it's confession time..I don't wear make up either...only foundation now (I started at age 38 with it) unless going out (which is rare) but I would recommend false eyelashes by Jinty (certain salons do them). Theyattach to your own and take hour to do

I had them once only as a treat as OH got fed up of me moaning about my low maintenance/mse lifestyle. I think they were £40 and lasted 4 weeks. They were totally amazing. Everyone commented (nicely!).

When I am the other side of this crunch, I'm going to have them again.....it's what keeps me going. Keep the business in shape and surviving..just to have lovely eyelashes

Well I tried wearing make-up and some nice lingerie but Mrs Generali caught me and TBH things were a little frosty Chez Generali for a while afterwards so I haven't tried since.

I might try some gold pen if she goes away for a weekend I suppose.

:rotfl: Male grooming was just taking off too......but the crunch is going to stop it in its tracks.

Lots of men use the gold pen secretly.

Hair removal; that's a credit drunch issue too. Economy hair removal (epilator or home wax) is painful and a bit haphazard. One can end up looking a bit ...err....patchy.
