Very difficult to give advice without seeing your specific clinical notes/x-rays.

You can obviously see an NHS dentist if you can find one. As an alternative to a private dentist, you may want to try and find a practice that bills itself as 'Independant' which usually means that the fee scale is an intermediate between NHS and Private, but usually more towards the former. However, as a dentist (and one who has spent most of his career treating within the NHS), I would say one thing - Pay peanuts, get monkeys.

Neither root canal treatment nor bridges are simple treatments, and are both time consuming. In general, when you see a dentist, you are not paying for an item, but for the the dentists' time. The less you pay, the less care and attention the dentists is able to lavish. This may not ring true for all dentists, but any worth their salt...

I will happily recommend myself as a dentist! This might however seem a little suspect. If you wish to drop me a line, I can certainly try and recommend someone I know personally who practices in a location you find easy to reach on a regular basis. Feel free to contact me!

    Kind regards

    Vik

Geoff, I live in Glos. We use Annandale Surgery in Eastgate St. I can't remember exact prices, but check-ups are about £10, x-rays £14 (can't remember anything else, but they're very reasonable!).

    Hope that helps ;D
