When is an air travel E ticket not a ticket?

When it doesn't have a number.

This has happened to me before, you get to check in and can't check in because the e ticket doesn't have a number, you then have to queue at the airline's customer service desk to sort it out.

If you buy an e ticket through a travel agent it is worth checking that it has a number before travel.

Or ring the supplier before travel to confirm booking and obtain the confirmation number.

Don't get confused with confirmation references, airline references, travel agent references you can get all these but if your e ticket doesn't have an e ticket number then you will have hassle at check in.

I'm talking about e tickets issued by traditional airlines such as BA and Virgin, not confirmation references from easyJet or Ryanair.
