How much electric does my cooker use?

This is probably a really silly question.

But I've only just realised my gas cooker is plugged into the electric (I'm in a rented house).

I thought this would be just to power the clock - which is never right as I don't know how to use it. So I turned it off and tried using the gas hob, but it wouldn't spark.

So I presume, it uses the electric to spark. How much electric does this actually use up. Would I be saving any money if I turned the electric off when I'm not using the oven - I only ask because it's just one of those appliances that you always have switched on.

Any ideas?

Thanks Laura

  • very very little

Yes it only powers the clock and spark - probably less than 10p a year

If you really can't work out how to use the clock then power it on when its correct
