With the regard to the £121.77 credit, yes that is money you've paid for energy ypu've not yet used. However, that is how the direct debit payment scheme is meant to work, you are meant to build up a credit over the summer months to pay for increased usage over the winter, the idea is that come March/June you should have a balance close to zero.
I work for British Gas (please don't throw things!) and we advise people that if they have a new baby their bills may skyrocket for the first year or so. If you think about it logically, there is normally someone at home all the time (with the baby) using electric, people normally keep the house warmer with a baby (more gas), washing machine and tumble drier get used A LOT more, baby may keep you up all night (more lights, tv, radio, etc, more electric), etc.
It is very hard to compare any 2 peoples usage as everybody is different.
