huge cost to connect gas cooker!
Could anyone tell me why a corgi registered plumber is trying to charge me £80 to connect the new cable I have already bought to the fixing on the wall?! I would love to do it myself but have been told this is not legal, especially if I rent the property out. It is frustrating as it is a 2 minute job(plus travel I know)

If he hasn't already done it, you could try phoning round for a cheaper one, that sounds very excessive just for connecting it.Torgwen.......... ...........0

I remember I was quoted £40 3 years ago to connect my Rangemaster. I decided to do it myself - took me about half an hour - only because I didn't want to make a mistake.0

I'm having a gas cooker connected tomorrow and I'm paying £85 for it. Thats about the going rate I'm afraid.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Ouch. Luckily I have a mate who's a plumber. Even so, when he came to connect my gas cooker, it took him all of five minutes and half that time was getting the cooker in place. I had to send it back cos I ordered wrong model so eventually I connected it myself.
I suppose the £80 includes the time it takes the plumber to come out etc. Might only be a few minutes job but its the total time whilst hes not earning on another job.0 -
I paid about £45 earlier this year but he did have to alter the fitting slightly when he took the old cooker out- I think one cooker had the fitting on the right and the other was on the left or something.0

I think the reason it costs so much for such a little job is that the plumber is Corgi registered and has paid for that, whilst the home DIY-er isn't registered. And if subsequently something happens to the connection, I know which the insurers etc. would prefer you to have used.0
