If you're sure there is a fault with the camera try contacting fujifilm direct, they will give you instructions for sending the camera to them for checking.

To be honest, most high megapixel cameras produce images something like this when viewed at 100%, your 4 megapixel camera will appear to produce better quality when viewed on a PC monitor at 100%, but the real comparison should be the quality when printed.

I have a S5700 that takes 7.1 megapixels shots - it is very good (considering it costs only £70 refurbished by Fuji).

Even this entry-level job has a gazillion settings available in the menus including many options to drop the resolution to allow you to take umpteen thousand photos at lower rez settings.

Served brilliantly during our recent holiday - now looking to get another, more capable Fuji when they offer the next 20% discount...

from my POV, it looks like one of the effects that digital cameras have in them have been turned on..

have you checked everything or done a full reset back to factory settings and tried again?

Another thought, does this camera have a manual focus setting? Make sure the focus is set to auto.
  • How much zoom was on the camera when that shot was taken? That shot looks like camera shake. If you have it on a large zoom setting the camera needs to be steady on a tripod or sitting on something, and you should also use a cable release or selftimer so that you are not touching the camera when the shot is taken.

Try taking a shot with the same settings as the photo with the camera sitting on a table & press the selftimer to take the shot. Have a look at the shot then.

hi no effects or anything no zoom either, I will reset and put one more photo, I might have to crop but will see it might be better to leave as it is so you can see exif info.

thanks will also get second opinion from local camera shop.

they are taken at full res, as size is too big had to crop the photo.
here this example, I couldnt edit proprly as the face was merged with background due to too much noise.

Reading the reviews the S8000FD has a good flash and shouldn't have a problem indoors.

I pretty much always turn off Image Stabilisation on my camera.
I stop automatic ISO adjustment. With a good flash you should be fine at ISO100.
Zooming full in to max telephoto will increase the effects of camera shake.
An 8M camera will show more detail and hence more shake than a 4M camera.

Check the minimum focus settings. At wide angles 28-38mm then the focus might be down to 30cm or something like that (excluding macro mode). At telephoto 200mm-400mm focus might be in the order of 1-2m.

The stitching on the shoes is OK but the trousers are blurred. The carpet looks OK. Getting too close can bleach things out with the flash.

Try taking a photo with the camera resting on a table pointing at something the camera can focus on with detail you can look at 2-3m away. Try setting it to a low ISO (100-200) to stop the noise. It will give you a benchmark.

Read the manual and learn how to get the best results from the camera.

There are lots of reviews and there will be a lot of test shots for you to compare your own results.
