A word of warning - Halifax Online Account Login

The Halifax are upgrading their Security & asking all online account holders to register as many phone numbers as they have so that Halifax can check you out whilst you are logged in by phoning you.
This is great except that what happened to me could be happening to a lot of other people................
I logged on to my account from work today and entered my user name, password and security without any problem. I then got a page telling me that they were going to do an additional phone security check to verify who I was. I had to select the phone number that I wanted them to call me on. Unfortunately the only number on my account is my home phone number.
So because the page warns you not to quit the browser or else your account will be suspended I phoned the Online Heldesk number. There I was told to go ahead with the call to my home phone, even though I wasn't there & I was assured that my account would not be suspended until they had contacted me successfully.
Well it did suspend my account & the only way to get it back again is to wait for the Halifax to call me (& they won't pre-arrange to do this when you are in either).
So before you access your online account to add all your phone numbers make sure you are near a phone that you know has already been registered on your account or you may also get suspended.
It must be happening quite a lot because the Halifax Online Call Centre (08456 02 00 00) now have an Option 9 to select if you are having problems entering online phone numbers.

"I was assured that my account would not be suspended until they had contacted me successfully"
So they suspended it because they couldn't contact you, but according to them - they would suspend it if they had contacted you successfully!0 -

You're not quite picking up on the logic are you?
They have written to you, recently, and told you what was happening. To the effect they will attempt to contact you on all the 'phone numbers you have supplied - before suspending the access. If you had only supplied your 'home phone - then that is all they could try!
So if you frequently Logon from a PC with an IP that is not your usual - then you are likely to trigger an automated exception and which generates the page you saw. Essential therefore to provide a 'phone number they can catch you on at that point?
If you don't then they will take the view this is a potentially unauthorised access and suspend the activity. The documentation they have provided isn't difficult to understand? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
