Finally plucked up courage to go bankrupt, nearly year after being advised to do so by the CAB, and 6 months after CCCS advised me!!
Could have coped with few thousand pounds of credit card debt, but house repo letter came in saying Abbey were owed £36,000. I had a sale running on my old house for £10,000 more than Abbey eventually sold it for (after a year), so what with that, plus charging me the monthly interest for over a year, plus their charges I went from breaking even to owing £36,000.
It is something I never ever wanted to do.
Other good news is that have just been permanently rehoused by the council into 3 bedroom house for me and my 3 children. Every thing seems to be looking up now, and I have to say, the bankruptcy is like a weight off my shoulders.
I have nothing but grateful thanks for the council, who have been brilliant to me, the court who were very thoughtful and discreet, and the OR who was wonderful and said he will put in for early discharge of 6 months, and will go through formalities of writing to companies involved giving them 5 months to complain.
This site is fantastic, and although I haven't posted often on here, I am a regular 'lurker'! I am a bit apprehensive of the next few months, and am counting down to cleaning up my credit history. (not that I want any more credit!)
Another question is, Who is good to contact with regards to proving Contents insurance to bankrupts

congratulations on getting through it.
Speak to your council and ask if they do contents insurance, we get it through our council and its only £6 per month which is quite reasonable really."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"
