House insurance

Hi, wonder if anybody can help.
About 3 weeks ago, our house was struck by lightening, and at that time my TV went off, and upon repowering, we discovered that the HDMI sockets had blown and wouldn't work.
Called household insurance, they took it away and examined it, and today rang me to inform me they wouldn't pay out as the TV failed due to general wear and tear, and it was coincidential that it happened when the lightening struck!
Do I have a right of appeal or another avenue to follow?
Thanks in advance

If the Tv was working prior to the lightening strike and didn't work after it then I dont see how they can claim its due to wear and tear. There should be a complaints procedure in the insurance documentation which you should follow to the letter. Also make sure you note down dates and names of anyone you speak to.0

An electrical contractor can tell if something is damaged by lightning or not. You could ask for it to be returned to you and get a second opinion, but it's highly unlikely that it would be any different.0
