Scoliosis of the spine

Has anyone here got this condition?

I have known for several years that I have a twisted spine but today the Consultant I have been seeing for trochanteric bursitis has also confirmed that I have scoliosis of the spine.

What can I expect next treatment wise and how will it affect my life?

My GP diagnosed this in me years ago.

All depends on the severity of the case. For some people it does not stop you doing anything you would normally do, for others it can make you more prone to backache and you may be advised to wear a brace.

Hi Silvercar!

Yes got the backache and worn the brace several years ago, not that I knew that it was because of this, thought it was down to the 2 degenerative discs in my lower spine. Guess these are what have aggravated it.

Scoliosis is a twisted spine. Perhaps you were just never told the medical term for your condition?

I just thought I had to reply to this. My mother-in-law was born with a twisted spine. She is now 56 years old. When my baby was born 11 months ago she fell whilst on a school trip (she is a year 2 teacher) and broke her hip when my baby was 5 days old. Almost a year later she had several tests done and one particular one in April but only received results this week. She has severe Osteoporosis and its worst by her spine. She is not allowed to lift any heavy things and can no longer look after my baby alone. Apparently they now only do these tests every 5 years if you have a twisted spine but she was never told to have these test. So any fall now can be quite dangerous.

Personally dont know how serious are other cases as havent had proper chance to google any of these yet, All the best for you

Thanks all,

Have just been out with a friend who used to be a physiotherapist in Denmark and she said that Chiropractic treatment will probably be the best for it - so we'll see what the GP has to say next week
