Best credit card (rewards) to use for business travel overseas

I am going to do a lot of overseas business travel. I will pay for hotels, taxis and meals using my personal credit card and claim back from my employer on my return.

My question is:
Which is the best credit card to use overseas to get some rewards or something?

I’ve got casback cards – Egg Money and AMEX, but cashback does not apply for overseas transactions. I also have Nationwide Gold Visa with zero transaction charge, but I am not after lowest possible costs, I am after some rewards like cashback, nectar points, hotel points, etc.

Any ideas?
Many thanks,
Alex

Well, if it is nectar points, than get the Nectar credit card, Tesco have their own Tesco credit card.
But will your employer pay all the charges incurred for the transactions? Nationwide doesn't charge any fees AND you get better exchange rate. Do you have to claim back with statement enclosed? If not, you could just use exchange rate issued by normal Exchange rate operator, which would be worse then the one Nationwide gave you and then you would earn few pennies on each transaction back...
If you have to show your statement AND work will pay for all the fees incurred, then did you look at American Express? But I have no experience with cashback on overseas travel, you would have to read their T&C...
  • This has the potential to become a "how to screw your boss" kind of thread, but I'm not being critical, don't worry. A lot of the cards don't pay out on foreign transactions (like the Nationwide gold) but I thought AMEX did??

Don't forget also, this could be the one occasion when having your transactions charged in sterling at point of sale could prove beneficial.

However, if your finance department has anything about them at all, a ridiculous level of overspending could lead to them choosing to book your hotels centrally, so I'd suggest you take it easy and don't go too overboard - after all, presumably there's overtime and free meals to be had as well?

For hotels, check out priorityclub.com for holiday inn brands (also https://www.priorityclub.com/ukvisa to get 10000 free points)

No this is not about screwing the boss, this is about maximising my benefits, in a similar way as use of a frequent flyer card for business travel.

This is what I am looking for, but preferably not hotel specific. Thank you.

You can spend points at some high-end competitors' hotels as well, though obviously the Holiday Inn/Marriott exchange rate isn't quite so hot.
