Tumble Dryer or Dehumidifier?

Hi all,
I have no idea where to begin with researching this, so I thought I'd ask you money saving experts. We have just moved so that I can go back to university to study as a postgraduate. The house we are renting has a mixture of storage heaters and oil filled plug in heaters.
This means that we have no method of drying cloths. We have a 10 month old baby and I shall be cycling to university with him on the back - this means that we will have many cloths to wash and no means of drying them. I have tried airing them outside - but with the weather turning we need a reliable method of getting stuff dry. We have a cloths horse, but not much space and so far items left to dry are taking two or more days to dry - and is in the way during this time.
We were thinking of getting a tumble dryer, but my parents pointed out that they use a dehumidifier. They hang cloths up on a line in their down stairs bathroom, plug in the dehumidifier and cloths are dry in a few hours. We'd have to put it up in the kitchen and close the door.
I have no idea which would be cheaper to run. We have an economy 7 plug and will try and use that for which ever we go for. But I'm at a loss as to which is best.
All help and advice very much appreciated.
