its a cyhsrler grand voyager , im 35 , been driving 10 years and never had an accident before , had a mondeo just before this thing and had nowt but trouble since i got it so beleve its cursed lol
the excess is expensive but i put down for none voluntary and all of them kept putting a 500 pound compulsray excess so i didnt have much choice
i phoned up again today and they said i need to get the garage to send them a quote though but they are shut till tuesday but dont really want to go back in it again now.
unfortunatly it was so sudden that couldnt really be avoided, thankfully was going slow and not on a motor way so not as bad as it could have been.
the other driver that slammed on his brakes just drove off so cant even get no claim off that person and the van driver didnt indicate just bloomin decided to pull to a stop which wouldnt have been a problem if i never had to go that lane to avoid the other car.
we were quite far behind too but obviously not far enough.
So, the van in front of you braked suddenly and drove off. So who did you hit then? Its not clear, you say you went into another lane? Did you hit another van in another lane? Or a car in the other lane?

Which IMHO is just as bad. What if this action causes an accident and an innocent party gets injured (passenger in your or other car, or another car or pedestrian).
Cheers, Nick.
I must admit, I tend to slow down, too, when tailgated... my reasoning is that firstly, if they want to get past me then I'm not too much of a challenge, and they can get past quickly... and secondly, I now possibly need to stop TWO cars if I have to brake suddenly - my own and the !!!!!! behind me up my tailpipe... :rolleyes:If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

there was no turkish people that i know of :rotfl: and i hit the van after the case in the right hand lane slammed on their brakes as i had to go into the left hand lane where unfortunately the van had decided to pull in and stop(no indicators but there was nothing behind him at that point so soppose he didnt feel he needed to). dont know why the other car deciced to brake so hard and we were not up his a** so to speak or going fast ,braked and it just didnt stop. the van driver was very nice though and has phoned up to check we are all ok and said the other driver was an idiot but they didnt get the plate of them either as they just drove off.
thankully we are all ok anyhow and the ins will sort it:o***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -

So to avoid crashing into the braking car in front you swerved & crashed into a parked van?
Drivers who swerve to avoid an obstruction in front without checking what they are going to smash into are my nightmare.
Good job it wasn't someone getting out of their car! Or someone waiting to cross & a few steps off the pavement.0 -

Look up safe breaking distances before you start driving again;)
You seem to think everyone else is at fault for this. You were driving too close to the vehicle in front & then you crashed into someone in another lane.0 -

i asked for advise on ins as you can see from post above, i find some of the comments quite unasked for really, as i said ive been driving 10 years, clean license, no claims etc ,i do keep a safe distance and was far off, it just didnt seem to brake, i stopped only because i was in the back of the van.
thankfully the van firm called today and have offered to pay me half the costs if i decde not to put it through ins and they know a cheap bodyshop place so may be better off than i thought:T***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -
You are definitly better off, my guess is the driver of the van was uninsured and prob has no license. Cant see why they'd offer to pay half of an accident that wasnt their fault unless there was something adrfit with the driver. But anyway as you've said you'll get it sorted and wont be too much out of pocket so its good all round.pinkcandyflossprincess wrote: »i asked for advise on ins as you can see from post above, i find some of the comments quite unasked for really, as i said ive been driving 10 years, clean license, no claims etc ,i do keep a safe distance and was far off, it just didnt seem to brake, i stopped only because i was in the back of the van.
