It is adviseable to avoid Virgin West Coast at weekends currently due to extensive engineering work.

Weekend tickets are not yet available for November, and weekdays, uptil 12 weeks away are. That suggests that there is no confirmed timetable yet due to as yet unadvertised engineering work, which reinforces what I said in post #2 in this thread. No timetable = no reservations = no advance tickets. Non-advance tickets are available, which again reinforces what I said.

You said "there probably won't be any trains for a section of the journey ", which suggests replacement buses. This may well be the case on the West Coast, but it is confirmed as not being the case on the East Coast route, hence my suggestion of booking that route as soon as they go on sale.

I want to return home on Sunday 9th or Monday 10th November. I notice that there are £18.50 tickets but on the Virgin route on Monday. Also the NXEC website says tickets are not available after 7th November. I have subscribed to the email update. But I thought tickets were available 3 months in advance. The wait is annoying! I just want to book the train home!
