When should I start looking for a remortgage?

My tracker mortgage deal ends at the end of February 2006 and I will be shopping around for a new deal. How far in advance should I start looking? I know that most people say 6-8 weeks but last time it did take longer than that from starting the paperwork to actual completion.
Thanks,
Nicola

Mine took about 7 weeks as the lawyers were slow. Generally 2 months before the deal is coming to an end is the time to start looking.
Edit: If you stick with your existing lender then you can switch deals early if you find that it is in your favour. I believe that the Nationwide do this.0 -
With Nationwide you can change to a new deal within last 3 months of your existing deal. Took about 3 days to do teh paperwork and send it back and switched from the date they had receievd the signed form back(though it took them a couple of weeks to sort it as they were busy but they backdated it all)0

If it ends in Feb, I would start looking ASAP.
You can book the rate and the funds but not complete till you are ready.0
