advice on floor sanding and room painting pleaaaaase

This might sound like a bit of a silly question but i am new to the DIY thingy.
I have a large room 22ftx12 that I want to paint and sand the floorboards in. Which way round would you recommend i do this? should I paint first? I only have 3-4 days to finish the room before the furniture arrives.
all suggest very welcome
Thanks:j

Do the sanding first. This will kick up clouds of dust like you would not believe. You're going to have to wash the walls down to get rid of the dust either way, so better to wash them down before painting, rather than spoil the nice new paint job.

When you're sanding, open the windows, shut the door and seal it with masking tape. The dust will get everywhere, and even with the door closed you will find streaks of dust all over the other rooms if you're not careful. I know this from experience :-(
  • Um, difficult choice. I would paint walls first and sand after then do skirting boards last.

    My logic is:

    1. It's easy to drop the painting tool on a floor but hard to wipe mess up if it is floorboards. Covering the floorboards and then keeping them covered is a faff.
    2. Painting is fast and sanding takes more time so once the painting is done you know hoe much time is left for sanding to perfection redface.gif
    3. Cleaning the dust off 'new' walls is easier.

Are you using a hired sanding machine? How are you finishing the floor, wax?

Professional sanding can be pretty expensive but the machines are much better than the standard hire ones. They are less likely to kick up as much dust as they have big suction thingies on them

Me I would get the floors done professionally and then do the walls and then the skirting

    Running out of time .
Even if you can get a sander now!
To prepare, sand , ( wax and let dry ) paint etc
May be a little less diy!
