Re-Painting a character desk

Apologies if this has been asked before, I did a search but could not find an appropriate thread. I need to repaint a Tweenies desk, similar to this one:

DS aged 5 has outgrown it!
Would like to ideally paint it pure white to match his new bed. Any advice appreciated, thanks in advance.

It does depend on exactly what covering they have given it, especially if lacquered, but you should be able to give it a light sanding over to give it some keying then a coat of white undercoat (you may need to use the traditional oil based one*) then a coat of say Dulux Satinwood which is a hard wearing oil based paint.
*if the desk has been lacquered or glossed by the manufacturers, you will be better off in the long term using oil based undercoat. Otherwise the acrylic undercaot may not fully take to it and in time will just peel off. personally I would go down that route anyway.
