Are they actually on the flood plain or close to one and getting tarred with the same brush so to speak.

If it is the latter then Norwich Union claim to be able to assess the floodrisk down to the individual property rather than the full postcode that covers around 15 properties. In other words, if you live at the top of a hill you will get flood cover for a lower premium than those at the bottom of the hill but still in the same postcode.

We're with Abbey for our home insurance. We recently moved here, to an area that flooded quite badly during July last year - in fact, it's on the only road on the estate that didn't flood. We're around half a mile from the river.

They seemed to quote quite fairly - our premium worked out to be less than our last property, which was on a hill and nowhere near a river(!!). And, yes, we asked them plenty of times whether they had taken the events of last year into account!

I got the impression that they were quoting on an individual basis, rather than postcode, so they might be worth a try. Properties two roads up from us are still being repaired....

Liverpool Victoria, we're within a couple of hundred metres of a river but 10 or so above it. A lot of companies won't quote due to the postcode but we only pay just over £200 for buildings cover up to £500k
