Aftercare service for Vacuum- Asda Vs John Lewis Vs High Street Electric Stores

Hi there,

After extensive research I have decided to buy the miele s4211 vacuum cleaner to replace a panasonic one I bought 1 year ago, which has now broke. As this vacuum broke so easily I want to buy my miele from a store with the best aftercare policy that I can get.

Looking at the well known stores that I can buy this cleaner from- do you think I am better off buying from Asda or John Lewis?

I ask this as the vacuum is £20 more from JL, so essentially is JL customer service worth paying £20 for? Or is there a better store altogether?

Experiences with getting repairs/replacements from all high street stores, Asda and John Lewis most welcome.

Thank you

(P.S. On the same note: I returned an iron to Comet last week that had broke after 3.5 months, without a receipt and they replaced it there and then- no fuss. Would have bought from Comet again after that treatment, however they do not stock the miele s4211)

    Bump...

Blimey, surely someone has some kind of opinion/experience?
  • john lewis should price match Asda, and you should avoid comet. go to JL. They have standards they wish to maintain,
  • if the vac has broke due to a failure, it was not fit for purpose and it should be replaced, fixed or refunded by the retailer.

FWIW Asda says it's a 1 year guarantee, and JL 2 years.

Hmm, my instinct said that JL would be better, but I just wanted to confirm.... you never really know do you?

JesseBirdsall, I will see if JL will price match, but I dont know how you would go about it? My local JL isnt open yet... so I can only order online.

I believe you can only price match in store, not online:

however, you can order by phone from a nearby store.

  • apologies if this seems rude, but the opening line is 'after extensive research'. its a vacuum!!! does it really warrant extensive research???

Depends on your outlook I guess...

I would like to buy a vacuum cleaner that will last me longer than 1 year this time, that is of a high quality and is avaliable at a reasonable price. That way I should be negating the need to buy a new vacuum in another year and will therefore be moneysaving!

I have researched the best vacuum for me using online reviews, store reviews and which.com's best buy guide. I have also tried to find the vacuum, for the cheapest price from various stores.

I appreciate not everyone would go to such lengths.... but there again I am a scientist..... so it must be in my nature!

Stompa- Thank you ever so much for your help. I will be buying from M&S!!!
