Buyer tried to cancel but now wants the item.

I sold a small guitar amplifier on Sunday 20th July for £10 plus £9 delivery, a total of £19. The buyer paid immediately with Paypal but then sent this message:

hey Avoriaz, I just bought and paid for this for my useless son and he just phoned to say he picked one up from his mate earlier...any chance of a refund at all????? Sorry about this please let me know if possible cheers

I was away from home until Tuesday evening when I responded with

Hi, I am puzzled by your message.

You have bought another guitar amplifier less than an hour after buying my amplifier. That transaction appears to have been completed as the seller has already left you feedback.

I have paid listing fees and final value fees to Ebay, plus Paypal commission on your payment. If you want me to agree to cancel the transaction I will do so provided you agree to pay £5 to cover my costs and wasted time etc and to leave positive feedback.

Otherwise I will send you the amplifier and you can resell it if it is no longer required.

I was rather suspicious of her story. I think she bought my amp and then bought another one an hour later and she or her son prefers the other one.

I heard nothing for over a week until I received this in my Hotmail. It was not sent via Ebay.

I’m quite happy to complete the deal but I am concerned that I might be headed for a problem

Am I taking a risk in now sending it? As over 7 days have passed since the auction ended, will I lose my seller protection?

The buyer has 100% feedback on 39 mixed sales and purchases. Her address is confirmed. There is nothing to be concerned about other than the above.

Thanks Fay. I know it is only £19 but I am a tight wad and I hate being scammed.:D

I stupidly fell for a Western Union payment con about 6 years ago. I only lost about £20 but I still kick myself for my stupidity. I’m supposed to be smart.:rolleyes:

Reading this forum has made me paranoid about Ebay scams.

This situation just doesn’t feel quite right. I’ve replied to the Hotmail email asking her to confirm via Ebay messages that she now wants to proceed.

I shall see how she reacts.
