18mth contracts
Why, all of a sudden have all the mobile phone companies started doing 18mth contracts.
I think its a big joke, 12 months is too bloody long. The phone companies rip us off so much and now they are trying to do it with 18 month contracts.
It made me laugh this morrning on the radio, some half-wit MP comes on saying how we are all getting ripped off by mobile phone networks on double charging for calls abroad, HELLO!!!, I could have told them that 5 years ago!!!!!
Disgusting!

I agree - 18 months is laughable. How many handsets will even last 18 months without needing a new battery or repair. The mobile telco's are doing everything in their power to prevent themselves from having to reduce prices.0

I had an interesting though t about the current 'half price for life' offers - I kinda suspect that the market is probably moving towards cheaper tariffs (well more bundled mins for the same price anyway) and so these offers are just trying to lock people in now and reflect where the market will be in less than 18 months time.I think....0

They are gradually cutting prices, commission, and the issue of new "free" handsets - probably the last of these is the biggest influence on having longer contracts.
Instead of all the cashback rigmarole, wouldn't it be a lot simpler if the contract went along at lower rental, and you just bought a handset when you felt like it.
Some handsets do last longer, though I'm starting to wonder if the battery on my nearly seven year old one is on its way out - might have to excavate the spare one ...0 -
18 months are simply not worth it my opinion. You'll get better ROI, selling your handset after 12 months on a 12 month contract and getting a new phone every 12 months, rather than the free minutes or £5pm line rental an 18 month might save.0

exactly what I meant - which is why they want to stop giving away so many phones -be sceptical if you like, but as michaels says - that's the way it's heading
as I went for the cheapest handset at the beginning, the annual rent is nearly zero, and the phone is not worth giving away0
