Zurich have paid up for my partner's endowment policy

my partner took out an endowment policy in December 2000. he paid for 20 months an amount of £150.36 per month. when we queried them about how the endowment was doing they said there would be a shortfall. so after putting in a complaint they have paid up £3700 (pretty good considering my partner paid in £3007.20 ). My dad has said to us that we need to make sure that is effectively a good amount or not. the letter also says to him that he has 6 months to review this and after this he loses his rights.
what are peoples thoughts on this. shoudl this amount be accepted? does it sound like a good offer ? and why would they be a bit more generous? my partner no longer has a mortgage (house was sold) so no longer needs to continue it anyway at this stage. i am not sure whether there would have been any set up fees but i know that the financial adviser put him on a 8% interest rate because he did nto have a good credit score which might explain why they gave him a bit more?

It is done using one of two defined calculation methods. So, providing they have used one of those calculations, they will not offer any more.
and why would they be a bit more generous?

They arent. Most likely reason the offer seems larger is that the policy hasnt run much, it would almost certainly be unit linked (im guessing it was an old dunbar policy) and with the stockmarket crash, it never had a chance to make the money. Ironically, the stockmarket crash and timing of the policy would almost certainly have done it very well over the long term.
