goodmans hifi

apologies if this is in the wrong place but since it says Argos it seems as good a place as any for it

around the end of last November to mid December, i bought A goodmans HiFi system, with turntable (not as easy to find as you'd think) so It's still under the 12 month guarantee.

in the last couple of weeks two things have broke on it, the needle arm thing broke off the first time i tried using it, never played my vinyl on it before, but the biggest thing is the cd tray wont stay closed, just keeps opening when i shut it, the day before that started it wouldnt open.

so, i want to take it back to the store but i cant find the receipt, ive looked everywhere, in drawers, in folders, even in dvd/cd cases and books to see if its inside , but nothing. apparantly if you have the box that can be used as proof of purchase? but guess what, two weeks ago we got rid of it!.

so, question is, is there anything i can do to get my money back or even a replacement or credit note? weve called both goodmans and argos about the problem with it.

p.s. before anyone asks bout my username, no im not from Liverpool lol (Oldham) the reason for the name is i cant walk (wheelchairererer) so i'll 'never walk alone'

If you paid for it with a credit/debit/Argos card, your statement can be used for proof of purchase. If you paid by other means; cash/vouchers, then it's a little more difficult. If you could remember the exact date you bought it the they should be able to trace the transaction on the system (if you can remember which till and at what time that would be even better).
Most of it depends on who is serving you at the time. Some of us (like me) will be a little more sympathetic and go out of our way to help, but others (like my fellow team leader) have an attitude of "no proof of purchase, no refund."
    Good luck.
