My I & E - what do you reckon?

Hi - My BR date is set foe 14th July, so this i my I & E - it is for a family of four (me, and three children)

Income:

£400 - wages (currently maternity pay)
£832 - tax credits (of which £560 is child tax credits)
£175 - child benefit
£583 - housing benefit.

Total - £1991

Expenditure:

£875 - rent
£40- council tax
£30- gas
£30 -elec
£12 - tv license
£17 - contents ins
£30 - water
£15 - BT
£400 - food etc
£100 clothes
£70 childrens activities
£20 - travel (public transport)
£20 - bike maintenance (i don't drive, so is essential and cheaper than bus)
£20 - hair
£20 - birthdays/xmas (i know may not be allowed)
£25 holiday (ditto)
£20 - emergency (i rent unfurnished so if washing machine breaks..)
£35 mobile

total 1779

so my surplus is £212, but only £37 if they don't count child benefit - so i think the max IPA i could get would be around £60 - is this right? All comments gratefully received....Thanks.

Hi - My BR date is set foe 14th July, so this i my I & E - it is for a family of four (me, and three children)

    Income:

£400 - wages (currently maternity pay) As matter of interest when is this ending and are you going to claim IS or go back to work?
£832 - tax credits (of which £560 is child tax credits)
    £175 - child benefit
£583 - housing benefit. Is this paid directly into your bank account? If not and it comes straight off your rent then adjust accordingly.

    Total - £1991

    Expenditure:

£875 - rent See above comment
    £40- council tax
£30- gas I would up these - take the value from the mobile phone (see comment) as gas/electric are going up so fast at the moment this is not likely to cover winter.
    £30 -elec
    £12 - tv license
    £17 - contents ins
    £30 - water
    £15 - BT
£400 - food etc Up this by £50 or so and let them knock you down if neccessary.
    £100 clothes
£70 childrens activities This is excessive for just 2 kids (the third is too young for activities) and this may be disallowed. Reduce it and add it to your travel
£20 - travel (public transport) I would change this to £40 a month, £10 a week is not unreasonable (I could pay £9 return for one trip into town with me and the kids)
£20 - bike maintenance (i don't drive, so is essential and cheaper than bus)
    £20 - hair
£20 - birthdays/xmas (i know may not be allowed) This is not usually allowed, but surprisingly most OR's allow holidays, so add it to that instead.
£25 holiday (ditto) £40 a month here is reasonable for a family of 4
£20 - emergency (i rent unfurnished so if washing machine breaks..)
£35 mobile You'll be lucky, especially as you have a BT landline. I would knock it to £20pm and add it to gas/electric.

    total 1779

    What about:

    Life Ins
    Perscriptions
    Dental
    Eye care (wear glasses?)

As to an IPA, thats not really likely as you are on benefits at present. Child Benefit and Tax Credits should not be taken into consideration.

What is likely to happen after maternity is up? Going back to work or income support?? If on IS then almost all rent would be covered, plus council tax and no IPA.
  • right so here is the adjusted version..my mat leave ends in feb, and will work part time so prob won't be much difference between wages and mat pay. Housing ben comes into my bank account - i don't have life ins, and am exepmt from prescription charges. i don't wear glasses, and although i do go to the dentist, i am exempt from paying til may on maternity grounds. I don't want to leave anything that might be allowed off, but i don't want to bump anything up to over an amount i could prove if need be. Does this look better? Thanks.

    £450 - food etc
    £100 clothes
    £50 childrens activities
    £40 - travel (public transport)
£20 - bike maintenance (i don't drive, so is essential and cheaper than bus)
    £20 - hair
    £40 holiday

    £20 mobile

    total - 1829

  • I was told that i could put £150 down for food, would that not count for the kids so hence it would be £600- 150each.

IM not sure thats why im asking, so please wait until someone comes along and puts me right hehe

Just because you don't wear glasses doesn't mean you (or your kids) shouldn't go to the opticians for checks? :)

You have to notify the OR within 21 days of a change in circumstance. If its an income change then you'll probably get sent a new I&E to fill in so a possible IPA can be applied.. you may not get one though (IPA) as your outgoings will probably go up when you get a job, so depends how much disposable income there is :)

Not something I have any experience about i'm afraid (only ever rented).. only know what i've learnt from here... lots on here have been in that situation though so if you have any specifics you want to know about then ask away and one of them will help :)
