BR - NT tax code and Housing Benefit

Ok so I am BR, am paying NT tax code and had to send in a couple of payslips to HB.
As I am now not paying tax, it appears to them that I am earning more so no longer entitled to HB. I did include a letter explaining the situation but they haven't read it yet. That's a different department apparantley. So no I am not getting any HB and they have sent me an invoice for £50 for overpayments!
What do I do? Wait until the other department have dealt with the letter? Pay the invoice? I'm certainly not inclined to pay it... I certainly haven't got a spare £50 :-(
