British Airways credit card....£20 hidden fee

Being a keen freebie-collector from credit cards, I signed up last year to the American Express British Airways credit card, and got the free miles as a sign-up bonus.

However, I didn't cancel the card and used it sporadically. Now, I found out I've been charged a £20 'membership fee'. I had no idea what this was, so called up and asked customer services. They rather indignantly told me that since I'd spent less than £2,000 on the card, I had to be charged a £20 'annual charge'. This sounded ridiculous, and I was not aware of this charge when I signed up....the customer services guy was completely uncaring. I cancelled the card on the spot, but can I reclaim the £20 (which I have not paid yet but I assume I will have to pay). Does anyone on here have experience with things like this?
