So on the landing/home page and your library, is the background also black? If you have a Kindle colorsoft…

Linking Samsung Fit 3 to Motorola phone
I have just bought a brand new Fit 3 from Amazon, and I am having trouble linking it to my Motorola G73 phone. I have installed the Samsung Wearable app, and successfully paired the Fit 3. The app said it wanted to install a driver, which it did from the Play store. The next step is that apparently wants to link to a…

Black intermittent screen on wide screen monitor and windows 10
I used to have a two screen setup but having donated one to somebody when I now start my desktop PC (with Windows 10) on just my LG ultrawide 29WK600 it shows an intermittent black screen with flickering horizontal lines. The screen is also pixelated when the black screen isn't present. I thought that it could be a…

Windows 11 sign-in
I have recently bought a new Windows 11 laptop and have it up and running. I am baffled as to why, when turning it on, it displays my email address above the box where I sign-in to get to the home screen. Surely this is a security issue for prying eyes in cafes/pubs etc.? My Windows 10 computers never did this. I have…

Repairing laptop hinge fixings.
Just posting this for info - I think I've managed a successful repair.Typical HP weak fixings for the screw inserts, held by a thin sleeve of plastic which is part of the casing. I first tried super-gluing the metal inserts back into place, but it was clear this wasn't going to work - the levering force on the hinges is…

Connector to a WiFi card.
Hi.Fixing a HP laptop. Once of the issues was a broken connector going to the Intel 3168NGW WiFi card. I bought this, having been assured it was correct: I cut the cable in half, and soldered one end to the old cable. The actual end connector, tho', is physically larger, tho' I'm not sure whther the connecting innards are.…

xl2qif no longer works with 64bit XL, but is this alternative safe?
The Excel macro created some long time ago by a French chap, and which worked well, no longer works with a 64bit version of xl. This website (XL2QIF Converting Excel files to QIF for import to Quicken – Matt A) claims to have modified the macro such that it will now work. Has anyone tried it out and can confirm that it is…

Free 'Send reminder' option for website?
Hi all. I run a monthly men's group and have set up a website with information. While the group runs on the same day/week of each month, I'm aware that people can forget as it's not very regular. I'd really like to have something on the webiste that they can click that will then send them a reminder a few days before the…

Mobile data - even light use eats it up too quickly ?
Phone techie advice please ! I’ve just
signed up for a contract with 3GB monthly data which by all accounts should be

Preparing for Windows 11 upgrade
My PC is capable of running Windows 11 and I am getting the usual Microsoft prompts to do so. Prior to upgrading I am giving it a good tidy up and ensuring everything is backed up. I was wondering what will happen to the MSOffice Professional 2016 that I use - can anyone advise if this will continue to work. Thank you

What type of desktop PC runs fastest?
My desktop PC is beyond slow. Loading up, loading apps, everything. My internet is slow too but that’s because it’s copper. I don’t think this would affect the speed the PC runs at normally. I bought it in 2020 and don’t use it for much, just basic Microsoft Word and Excel and browsing. Not a load of apps on it or gaming.…

Linksys Velop WHW0303 - still not reaching around the house!
After suffering with FTTC for 8 years we finally got SWISH broadband FTTP a couple of years ago and were obviously ecstatic. However, although the signal arriving at the router is great, the Wifi reach around the house is shocking. So I bought the Linksys Velop WHW030 at the end of 2023 to help push the signal around. 18…

Windows 10 Upgrade - OPatch
In anticipation for the October deadline for W10 support. I am looking for my options without changing my PC and laptop. One of the options is to use OPatch to handle security updates which MS will cease to do. Does anyone know how efficient this is and what it costs in comparison to MS's option to pay $30 for an extra…
